Pandemic Flu
|
The Washington County Health Department Emergency Preparedness team is currently developing and refining plans to ensure the health and safety of the citizens of Washington County in the event of a Pandemic Influenza outbreak.
The Health Department already has plans for mass immunization and mass distribution of prophylaxis (preventive treatment). In November 2005, staff conducted a drill during Influenza Immunization clinics to test the effectiveness of the plan. Multiple community agency and health care agency representatives participated in the drill.
Washington County Health Department staff will be participating in a state directed drill in August 2006. This drill will test the effectiveness of the county's ability to coordinate distribution of medications within the Western Region. Allegany County, Frederick County and Garrett County will be participating in the Western Region activities.
Our Communicable Disease Program specializes in the daily monitoring of disease outbreaks in Washington County and keeps informed of any outbreak activity throughout the state. We are currently developing a public awareness message on infection control practices and pandemic preparation for distribution to all households in Washington County.
