Childhood Immunizations

FAQ - Some Frequently Asked Questions:

What if my child needs immunizations and I can not afford to pay the administration fee?

Your child will still receive the immunizations they need. All you need to do is to tell the registration clerk that you can not afford to pay the administration fee.

Can anyone besides a parent bring a child for their immunizations?

Yes, you can designate anyone over 18 to bring your child for their immunizations. It is best if you give that person a handwritten note stating they have your permission to bring your child for their immunizations.

Who qualifies for the Vaccine Free for Children Program?

Those who have Medical Assistance, insurance that does not pay for vaccines, or have no insurance.

If I have a doctor and insurance that covers immunizations, including Medical Assistance, where should I take my child for their immunizations?

It is best that you make an appointment with your child's physician because it is also important for your child to receive a well child checkup.

What to expect during your visit to the Childhood Immunization Clinic:

  1. You will enter the lobby of the main Health Department building at 1302 Pennsylvania Avenue.
  2. The registration process will begin with the Registration Clerk in the lobby and be completed by a Health Assistant in the clinic area. You will be asked to complete a questionnaire during this time.
  3. You will need to give the Health Assistant all of the immunization records that you brought with you. Remember: You must bring immunization records to the clinic in order for your child to receive immunizations on that day.
  4. Your child's immunization record will be reviewed by a nurse to determine all the immunizations that your child should receive during the visit.
  5. A nurse will then take you and your child to a room in the clinic area.
  6. The nurse will ask questions to assure you child can receive the immunizations, give you information on all the immunizations, answer any questions that you may have, and then give the immunizations to your child.
  7. After giving the immunizations, the nurse will update your child's immunization record with all the immunizations given during the visit.
